MANFAAT BUAH APEL

Sejarah apel ternyata setua sejarah umat manusia. Buah berwarna merah menggoda inilah yang membuat Adam dan Hawa terusir dan Taman Firdaus. Mitologi Yunani mencatat pula bahwa buah apel adalah penyebab terjadinya perang Troya. Konon Paris menyulut kecemburuan para dewa dengan mempersembahkan apel kepada dewi cinta Aphrodite, sehingga terjadilah perang Troya yang terkenal itu. Apel juga memberi inspirasi bagi sejumlah orang terkenal di dunia. Sir Isaac Newton menemukan teori gravitasi setelah melihat buah apel yang terjatuh dari pohon. Steve Jobs memilih apel sebagai sebuah merek komputer terkenal di dunia. Di Indonesia, di sekitar tahun 80-an, penyanyi Anita Sarawak pernah sukses mempopulerkan lagu “Tragedi Buah Apel”.
Penampilan buah yang ranum, renyah, dan berwarna merah ini mungkin membuat apel menjadi pesona tersendiri bagi manusia selama berabad-abad. Pesona merah dan ranum ini sering pula dikaitkan dengan sensualitas seperti Aphrodite. Oleh karenanya, pada zaman dulu sari buah apel sering digunakan untuk penyegar dan stimulan dalam bercinta. Sayangnya, belum ada penelitian yang mengumumkan benar tidaknya khasiat apel sebagai ramuan stimulan dalam bercinta.
Namun, apel telah terbukti bermanfaat untuk wanita usia menopause. Menurut penelitian US Apple Association pada tahun 1992, diberitakan bahwa apel mengandung boron yang membantu tubuh wanita mempertahankan kadar estrogen pada saat menopause. Gangguan penyakit pada saat menopause, seperti ancaman penyakit jantung dan kekeroposan tulang karena kurangnya hormon estrogen, bisa dicegah dengan boron yang terkandung dalam apel.
